Prof Rob Pierce
15.01.1947 - 7.02.2009
Whilst not an official member of the ANZSRS, the impact that Professor Rob Pierce has had on our society cannot be underestimated. In the early years of the Society, Rob contributed several articles to then Society journal called Volume. His incredible knowledge and approachable attitude meant that he was a valued teacher and colleague of many ANZSRS members, some of whom have themselves made significant contributions to the Society. Names that spring to mind include Peter Rochford, David Johns, Paul Guy, Jeff Pretto and Bruce Thompson. His choice of MD topic reveals how interested Rob was in respiratory physiology. He was a very hands-on person who was happy to not only plan and conduct research, but also volunteer as a subject for research projects. While his friends and colleagues will sorely miss him, I am confident that Rob's legacy will live on through the knowledge he shared with them and the areas of research he initiated.
